Netizens Online Toastmasters–The first-ever internet-based public speaking group

Netizens Online Toastmasters is an officially recognized group by Toastmasters International. They are the first online Toastmasters club (#5357724) that started as a pilot program in 2012 and subsequently became fully chartered on March 25, 2016. With their 1-year anniversary fast approaching, they already sport 25+ members.

I first heard about this group in the December 2016 issue of Toastmasters magazine. Since we are in the age of technology where smartphones have made analog telephones obsolete, why not have a Toastmasters club that is strictly based over the internet?

After attending today’s online meeting, I have to say that I too am hooked on this group.

As a current Toastmasters member, I have always found it a good idea to expand my horizons beyond my own group that I have joined in Dallas. By attending yesterday’s online meetup, I have the opportunity to meet like-minded people outside the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Obviously, doing a “post-Toasties” meeting after a weekly meeting is an impossibility with an online group. However, I have noted that sitting in the comfort of your own home can have its advantages.

For one, there is no travel time especially with today’s outrageous gas prices. Secondly, having this weekend online meeting can make it convenient for everybody who has to face the hustle and bustle of daily life IN DIFFERENT TIME ZONES.

I give two thumbs up to Netizens Online Toastmasters. (: (:
