Another AST club officer and member to perform her 10th speech and get her CC status

It looks like Addison Singles Toastmasters is churning out successful champions in 2017. It was not too long ago that our VP of Education completed her 10th speech, and her success has now paved a way for the next person. As of this month, Queenie Wen (https://goo.gl/39Aqap), graduated with her 10th speech and became the 2nd club member and officer this year to reach Competent Communicator status. #AST9872 #AddisonSinglesToastmasters

One of the requirements of the Competent Communicator award is to design and deliver 10 different prepared speeches in accordance with the _Competent Communicator_ manual. Each speech is performed by the speaker and, subsequently, receives feedback by an evaluator in the club. Once the speaker performs his/her 10 speeches and receives the evaluations will he/she receive the CC award.

In her milestone speech, Miss Wen cited two things that she needed to overcome when engaging in public speaking. The first is her language barrier. By joining Toastmasters, her journey through the program has helped her overcome her shyness with her accent and become more articulate with her words.

The second thing she cited was cultural differences. There ARE cultural differences when it comes to humor between Americans and Taiwanese, according to Wen. Being in the Toastmasters program has helped her to develop speeches that are suitable for an American audience.

Ms. Wen has been a member of our club for more than 2 years now and was recently elected the club’s Secretary and Treasurer. This position enables her to apply her leadership skills in two different aspects for our organization. This may seem like something that is difficult to do, but for her, this was no roadblock. Watching her entertaining speeches over the months has proven to me that she is up for the challenge in assuming this bilateral role.

Communication is the key to success in any industry. Anybody who is willing to better their skills through public communication will eventually come out on top in business or life. For this reason, Toastmasters has a good reputation of producing leaders throughout the world regardless of their country of origin.

Ms. Wen is admired by her peers for her grace and composure when she speaks. She never once let her accent hinder her from her true potential to achieve the first of many awards in the Toastmasters organization. Let’s see what is in store for her in years to come.

My only regret with AST is that we don’t have more people like her.

Congratulations, Queenie.
